I've undertook the task of discovering more about the building in which Mrs Thatcher spent most of her years living in. Built in 1893, the 37-room mansion was home to the John A. and Margaret Thatcher family and named after Mrs. Thatcher's favorite flower. It remained a family residence for 75 years. Designed by noted New York architect Henry Hudson Holly and two years under construction, the mansion was completed in 1893. Nearly all furnishings, accessories, decorative arts, paintings custom paneling, wall and window treatments are original to the home.
The home is now a museum, which sits next to Parkview Hospital in Pueblo Colorado. The house is Richardsonian Romanesque style, built in 1893 from pink volcanic stone taken from Castle Rock Colorado. All for $60,750 in it's time.
The house, now, contains most of the original furniture including Tiffany chandeliers, oak staircase and a 9x 13 foot stained glass window.
I enjoy seeing buildings that are built with indigenous materials. The pink volcanic stone really makes the property stand out; There are many rock houses in the area, but not volanic rock. I love beautiful old homes, when I become an architect (what I aspire to be), I will enjoy incorporating historical methods and materials with modern architecture that still breathes life!
